Child Visitation

In every case involving children, the court orders a specific schedule for parenting time. This outlines when each parent receives time with their child(ren).  The courts consider what is in the best interests of the children, not necessarily the parents. Ohio statutes provide many factors to be considered in making the determination.

Each Ohio county must also have a standard parenting time order, which can be changed on a case-by-case basis when in the best interests of the children. The standard parenting time schedule provides guidance to parents on reasonable visitation schedules.  In appropriate cases and only if the court finds it is in the children’s best interest, the court also may award companionship/visitation rights to persons other than the parents, such as grandparents.
